Drawing inspiration from the practical world of aviation and the futuristic vision of 1920s-1940s science fiction films, Spacecraft is a hybrid work that celebrates the past, present, and future of flight and exploration. As a work, Spacecraft is based on three fundamental concepts: hybridization, engineering, and tradition. As man's journey into aviation began to evolve, from kites to hydrogen balloons, to the airplanes we know today, so did his imagination. Towards the end of the 20th century, advancements in engine technology and aerodynamics made controlled, powered flight possible for the first time. The world opened up to the new possibility of an experience never before seen by the masses. "Airships," the first large hot air balloons, became the standard for long-distance flights, revolutionizing the human perspective on the world. At the same time, these technological advancements stimulated the imaginations of creators and filmmakers who already dreamed of worlds beyond our knowledge. Science fiction films came to life on screen, offering a new kind of liberation from the current world and its limitations. Spacecraft combines the discrete form of small aviator glasses with a highly engineered round frame, a shape commonly found in glasses from the 1920s, 1930s, and 1940s.
